Apitherapy against cancer

The expert says that observational studies performed globally show that people that work with bee cultures have less incidence of cancer

UN/DICYT High vitamin concentration in bee byproducts improves blood flow and the immune system in cancer patients. A research project carried out by the UNal Medicine Faculty shows that apitherapy (therapeutic use of bee byproducts) helps as supplementary, not definitive, treatment for cancer.

Results also showed that development of tumors in diagnosed cancer patients is minor, in other words, this type of products work as cancer cell expansion reducing agents in the affected area.

UNal and Colombian Apitherapy Society Physician and Surgeon Andrés Jagua is currently carrying out a research project to scientifically substantiate that it is possible for bee byproducts to be useful for cancer treatment.

The expert says that observational studies performed globally show that people that work with bee cultures have less incidence of cancer.

They proved that high vitamin concentrations improve several body functions, such as blood flow and the immune system, which applied to cancer patients helps diminish symptoms provoked by treatment.

Despite the findings Jagua says that apitherapy cannot be used as final treatment, because cancer is a very complex and particular disease that requires many treatment options. However it is a collaboration option in patient recovery.

Therapeutic support

Almost 90% of positive diagnoses are treated with a combination of radiotherapy and surgery; however they should deepen in each particular case to provide a precise diagnosis to diminish the tumor.

Therapeutic support options such as acupuncture and neural therapy should also be taken into consideration, besides apitherapy.

“This technique was applied in mice with the purpose of assessing how organisms behave and they discovered it can be an alternative in breast, liver, prostate, bone and central nervous system cancers,” he said.

At first, this research project was purely bibliographic but with time it began to apply as supplementary treatment, i.e. for people undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy researchers suggest applying bee venom and consuming honey or propolis to obtain better results.

Increasingly there are more treatment possibilities for cancer treatments and central treatment symptoms, opening new horizons for patients which suffer from this pathology.
